The Course

Where every Reiki practitioner begins.

Reiki Level 1, or Shoden, is the first teaching. It is the level at which the channel is opened in you, permanently, through an attunement. Everything after that is practice.

This course takes you through the whole of Level 1: what Reiki is and where it came from, how the energy body works, the full traditional hand placements for treating yourself and others, how to run a session from the moment someone lies down to the moment you clear your own energy afterwards, and what to expect from your attunement and the twenty-one days that follow it.

By the end, you will be able to give Reiki to yourself and to the people and animals around you. Many students take Level 1 purely for their own healing and never go further, and that is a complete reason to do it.

History of Reiki

Mikao Usui, the twenty-one days on Mount Kurama, Hayashi, Takata, and how this lineage reached the West.

The Five Principles

The ethical and spiritual foundation of the practice, and how to live with them rather than recite them.

Module 04

The Three Levels

Shoden, Okuden and Shinpiden: what each level opens, and why Level 1 is where everyone begins.

Module 05

How Reiki Works

Ki and the energy body, the seven main chakras, how blockages form, and what is happening during a session.

Module 06

Hand Placements

The full traditional sequence for treating yourself, and the sequence for treating someone else, position by position.

Module 07

Running a Session

Preparing your space, setting intention, grounding, opening your channel, closing cleanly, and clearing your own energy afterwards.

I am Jenna Sampson, a Usui Reiki Master and energy healer working out of Napa, California and virtually with clients around the world.

I did not arrive here from a spiritual background. I was a Division I soccer player, then a Berkeley graduate, then a global marketing executive at major technology companies. Reiki found me while I was still in that life, and it changed it enough that I eventually left to do this full time.

I say that because I know what it is to approach this work from the outside, skeptical and busy and unsure whether any of it is real. If that is where you are standing, you are not behind. You are exactly where I started.

Questions

What You Are Probably Wondering

How is the course taught?

A full online video course with a downloadable PDF workbook, designed to fit into your schedule. Read the PDF and watch the video when you choose to, then schedule your attunement session when you are ready, within three months of enrolling.

Do I need any experience?

None. Level 1 is where every Reiki practitioner begins, including me. Most people arrive knowing almost nothing about Reiki beyond a feeling that they want to learn it.

Can Reiki really be learned online?

Yes, and it is now how most people learn it. Mikao Usui, who founded this lineage, received Reiki alone on a mountain rather than in a classroom. The energy has never needed a particular room. What matters is the teaching, the attunement, and your own practice afterwards.

What if I am skeptical?

Skepticism is welcome here. You do not have to believe anything in advance, and you do not have to call yourself spiritual. Reiki asks you to try it and pay attention to what happens, which is a reasonable thing to ask of anyone. Some of the most capable practitioners I know arrived doubtful.

Is Reiki religious? Will it conflict with my faith?

No. Reiki is not a religion. People of every faith and of no faith practice it. It sits alongside what you already believe rather than asking you to replace it.

What will I be able to do afterwards?

You will be able to give Reiki to yourself, and to the people around you: your partner, your friends, your parents, your children, and your animals. Many people take Level 1 purely for their own healing and never go any further, and that is a complete and worthwhile reason to do it.

Will I be certified?

Yes. Your Usui Reiki Level 1 (Shoden) certificate is awarded upon course completion and after you have received your attunement.

Can I practice professionally after Level 1?

Level 1 is traditionally the level for healing yourself and the people close to you, and Level 2 is where most practitioners begin working with clients.

How long will it take me?

The video is pre-recorded, so you can watch it in your own time and at your own pace, and the PDF is there for you to read whenever you are ready. Most people complete it within a week, but I know life is busy, so you have up to three months to complete the course and your attunement session with me. If you do not complete your attunement session within those three months, you will need to purchase an additional one-on-one session with me.

What if I have already been attuned by someone else?

You are welcome. Some people take Level 1 again to strengthen the connection, to fill in gaps left by a course that moved too quickly, or simply because they want to be taught it properly this time. A second attunement does no harm.

Will I be able to ask you questions?

Yes, and you will be asking me, not a support team. I am a working practitioner with a small practice, not a large training company, so the person answering your email is the person who taught you.

What will it cost?
